Please register for classes early to ensure you have a space.  Any class not meeting the minimum number of guests 48 hours prior to class time may be rescheduled or cancelled.

Fun Details – All classes include menu recipes, samples of the food prepared and complimentary beverages. All students receive a 10% discount off of in store purchases (excluding alcohol) before and after class on the day of the class. For your safety, please wear flat, closed-toe shoes in our hands on classes.

Chef Bio:
In 2010-2011 Chef Joanne made two very important decisions - to retire from her full time position and to pursue her dream of learning more about the culinary field. She graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta, having learned about classical French techniques, garde manger (the cold kitchen), and having received a baking and pastry diploma. She is here to show you the hows and whys to create wonderful artisan products in your own home. Joanne may be a familiar face to many of you - she is a Cook’s and Sherlock’s employee working in the kitchen and in our stores since 2007.

Celebrity chefs all have a way with the knife because excellent knife skills go a long way in the pursuit of perfecting their cooking. Sharpen your knife skills in this hands on class that teaches the inside secrets to perfecting your slice, dice and julienne. Class topics also include selecting the correct knife for the task at hand, caring properly for your knives, and choosing cutting boards that are most suitable for your personal needs. We have plenty of knives on hand for you to use in class. If you prefer to gain practice with your own knives, please bring both a chef’s knife and a paring knife. A light dinner will be served using the freshly chopped items from class.

Knife Skills 101 Hands On Just for Tweens (Ages 10-12) (10148)

Attention budding chefs! Join Chef Joanne in this class where you will work in small groups to learn knife skills among your peers. Chef Joanne will demonstrate the proper techniques to debone a chicken then guide you through the proper techniques for:
• Using a boning knife to butterfly a chicken breast
• Using a chef’s knife for larger cuts to julienne and dice
• Using a paring knife for fine knife cuts
• Using the appropriate knifes to slice delicate items such as tomatoes and breads
Along the way you will learn about “mising” your ingredients, and will continue to work in small groups to complete some delicious recipes using your freshly sliced and diced fresh ingredients, including:
• Easy Dip served with Assorted Vegetables

Tarts Big and Small Hands On (10103)

Join Chef Joanne in the kitchen to learn how to make both large and individual sized tarts. You will work across various types of tart crusts and use various removable bottom tart pans as well as cupcake tins and individual mini tart tins. Next, fill your tarts with various pastry creams, ganache or curd and, finally, top things off with swiss meringue or maybe fresh fruit – Chef Joanne will share the secret to keeping the fruit fresh as long as possible. This class would not be complete without chocolate ganache filled tarts. Chef Joanne will guide your through this process so that you can go back home and mix and match recipes, styles of tarts, and finishes to enjoy with your family and friends.
