Japanese Seafood Favorites: Sushi, Tempura, and Shabu Shabu Partial Hands On (9939)

Since it is surrounded by the ocean, fresh seafood is abundantly available in Japan. As a result, seafood is consumed in great quantity and in many different ways, including the well-known custom of eating the tastiest parts of the fish Sashimi (raw fish), either with rice well known as Sushi. We’ll also explore another well-known preparation method, Tempura, along with the lesser known Shabu-Shabu. Join Chef Sean Higashida to learn them all:
• Popular Nigirizushi: Oval shaped vinegar rice topped with fresh seafood Tuna, Salmon, Eel, Shrimp, Flounder, and seasonal seafood.
• Crisp Clean Tempura: In mid-1500's, Japan created this dish called “Tempura”: a crisp, clean way to deep fry seafood and other foods. Chef Sean will demo and serve Shrimp Tempura, Kakiage (shredded onions, carrots, and green beans coated with flour and batter then deep fried) served with Tempura dipping sauce.
• Beef Shabu-Shabu: the name is derived from the sound made when the meat is swished back and forth in the stock or hot boiling water. When it is placed in the center of the table, it creates a heartwarming atmosphere for all who are gathered.
